About Me
Hello! I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to share a bit about myself and my journey in photography. My name is Andrew Tomey, and I am a passionate photographer based in Homer, Alaska.
I was born in the beautiful state of Virginia, but life has taken me on quite the adventure through six different states. This constant change and exposure to diverse landscapes and cultures have undoubtedly influenced my artistic eye. It was in Colorado that I was first introduced to photography by my mother, exploring the scenery that the Rocky Mountains had to offer. Those early days, capturing the essence of nature's wonders, ignited a lifelong passion within me.
Eventually, life's unpredictable currents led me to the enchanting wilderness of Alaska. It was here in Homer that I found my true home, both literally and artistically. Alaska's awe-inspiring landscapes provided the perfect backdrop for pushing my photography to new heights. The untamed beauty of this state compelled me to venture out, immersing myself in its raw and untouched wilderness, capturing its essence with every click of the shutter.
While photography has been an undeniable force in my life, my journey through education took a different path. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado - Boulder. Though my studies centered around psychology, the world of photography and biology also captivated my curiosity. Throughout my college years, I eagerly pursued photography courses and delved into the fascinating realm of biology, exploring the intricate connections between nature and the human mind.
Combining the knowledge gained from my academic pursuits with the hands-on experience of capturing powerful images, I have developed a unique style that is deeply rooted in the intersection of art, science, and emotion. Through my lens, I seek to tell stories, evoke feelings, and immortalize moments that would otherwise fade with time.
